What is there to service on an EV car that makes it as expensive as an ICE car at a dealer though?

On mine, it was brake fluid and cabin filter. Every 2 years, regardless of mileage. We got change out of £300, even from a BMW main stealer! 2 ways of looking at this, I guess.

1. That's a ludicrously large amount of money for brake fluid and a pollen filter.

2. Under £150 a year for main dealer servicing a premium saloon with nearly three-and-a-half hundred horsepower, is an absolute bargain compared to what a main dealer service would cost for an equivalent ICE car!

Not always, not being able to charge from home(many millions) higher depreciation, higher insurance, higher purchase price for private buyers, suitable for some, not all.

The higher depreciation means you can get some great used deals. Our 7 year old PHEV has been great and we saved 6K off the list price. Next car will be a BEV.

We have ordered our next EV, a Kia EV3.

Our existing one, an MG4 is doing cracking service at 35K with no issues. It had its first MoT with no problems and it's now had its 3rd service, again no issues.

So far, it's had one pair of tyres on the rear (it's RWD) but the fronts have got plenty left to see out the contract.

Do you charge at home? 40% can't, so to them no savings to be made, and if your existing car is so great, why change?

So I joined the fully electric club today, decided I fancied seeing what it was all about and as I can charge it for free at work should see a projected saving of 4k a year on fuel.

How much is the mortgage to drive one of those boxes?

It cost £21500 and costs me a days overtime at work so it doesn't have to come out of any of the family money.

I'm as big a petrol head as anyone but at 42 a sense of reality kicks in, I've had a whole string of fast cars and if you gave me a free perfect summer's day every week hands down I'd be back in a 911 but in reality I get those days maybe once a month and when I do I'll go out on one of my motorbikes instead.

The rest of the time it doesn't really matter what I'm in as my work commutes a 40 mile round trip on a busy a road with very little overtaking opportunities in a car, the wife's is similar so running any fast car is just burning money in fuel and wear and tear, I'd rather drive what is a reasonable car to drive and spend the fuel costs on stuff for my daughter or holidays.
