Is it a requirement to use them...how do you stop them from popping out when trying to locate the back box in position?...particularly when there are 3 cables running through :x Does the cable's outer insulation have to run in to the box?

If you are using metal back boxes, you have to protect the sharp knock-out edges or they might cut into the sheathing and insulation.

You do not have to put all the cables through a single hole, there are numerous knock-outs.

The only thing you do have to do, is to put the phase and the neutral of the same cable through the same hole; or if on 3-phase work, all the phases through the same hole. But as in most cases you will be using sheathed cables, and yes, the sheath has to enter the enclosure, this should be no trouble.

Cheers guys. Well I'll be...... :o Fidgeted and fussed with the darn thing for ages, got mad, kicked toolbox and sat down for a cuppa and queried it on here. Not happy with the yes answers :( - guess what?...yes, went back to give it another go - goes in as sweet as you like first time! :D Is it possible you guys also provide physical assistance of sorts through karmic waves :) If so, can you certify the worK please

I was giving you karmic assistance, that's £5 per box, please.
