Has anyone any sympathy?

Its must have been terrible for his parents...

Whilst she is also a hate figure, I do have a little sympathy for Maxine Carr, it's entirely possible that he gaslighted her into thinking he didn't do it. Manipulative people can make you think up is down and down is up. She was clearly under his spell.
I know someone who's son is inside for murder, but in their eyes "he didn't do it, he was framed by someone else" it's hard to believe that your loved one could be a monster.

Even Hitler had a girlfriend.

Of course he's a hero, in his own mind and in the microcosm of the little prison world that he inhabits.
This is what annoys me about this case, prisoners of this level shouldn't have access to any opportunity to commit more crime. Lock them in solitary if need be, it supposedly happened in a prison workshop, what were they doing in there? It's not like they're going to need any sort of job training for when they are released.
They should die in prison, but old and regretful, not living out silly gangster/hierarchy fantasies.
They could be repairing things for charity and they do it to get paid to buy luxuries for their sell.

What charity would want something repaired by Ian Huntley and his murderer mates?

I understand this sort of thing goes on in prisons, I know someone who became a bricky after doing a course inside. (No pun intended) So it's applicable to the low level crims who fell in with the wrong crowd or did a one-off silly.

But these guys should just be locked in a room with a bible, and given only tracing paper toilet roll.

They dont sign their handiwork - how would they know. They do jobs in prison some is for charity work - like a pushbike workshop for example.

People get unfairly killed in all sorts of activities (working, flying, sports, driving) yet we carry on doing those activities.
They certainly strive to make it safer, once fatalities occur or ban some activities outright, yes. That’s the problem with a death sentence, it’s somewhat final. The only way to improve that is to make it quicker or cheaper.

The law exists to deal with wrong doing so you (us) don't take matters into our own hands.
Did the law do it's job or did someone else step in to do the job?

The law did it's job. It was applied as it is in law, the other bloke stepped outside of the law, again. He clearly enjoys killing, you aren't supposed to be in prison so you can do things you find enjoyable, what sort of punishment is that?

Why are people so stupid as to look at the history of capital punishment and the numerous examples of people wrongly or unfairly killed, then go 'yes but this time it would be different and only the really bad people would be killed'.
I fully agree. If just one innocent person is executed, That’s too many.

I’ve always thought it was a horrible idea

But if the guilt is 100% certain....I mean it's on camera or 50 people witness it, then do away with them I'd say.
If there’s no doubt at all maybe. But with Ai etc now you can’t trust anything really.

Some people deserve it imho, but the concept is too flawed
