turn your hw/heating off at programmer.
then turn it off on the wall.

then see what the lever on the valve is like loose or stiff to push across.

does it feel as if its not connected to anything or can you feel resistance when you push it.

when you push it over does it come back on its own

It does feel like it is connected to something, there is slight resistance. Not so much as I would regards it as stiff or needing any force to push accross. But enough to presume it wouldn't just fall accross if it was tilted or something if that makes sense.

What happens now?

turn the mains power back on.
and put just hw on again at programmer.

it sounds like the valve is sticking in heating only position.

Ok if thats the case, how do I stop it from sticking, and enable it to be able to switch between the two please?

Thanks for your help with all this by the way

if your valve is faulty need a new valve drain the system and replace.

see what pipe gets hot with the hw on rads or cylinder.

Still the same, the cylinder pipe stays cold :(
Im assuming I need a new valve then do I ?
Anything else I can try? Is it possible its an air block as the radiators didnt work till I bleed the system?

Ok Ive just given the cold pipe from the valve to the cylinder a tap and it is now hot !?! Go figure!! Tough there still does not seem to be any hot water coming through the taps....grrrrr....

Yay I have hot water!! Not quite sure how, I tapped a pipe and hey presto 30 minutes later - there it was!!

Thanks for all your help guys :)
