Hello im changing a fan in my bathroom i have a earth wire a red a blue and a yellow wire and im not sure where the wires are supposed to connect to the fan there is a connector plug with L N L1 The earth wire is not needed so can anyone help with the others please.

That depends on how the other side is connected.
Logically it should be (if old colours and markers were used:

Red - L (permanent live)
Yellow (sleeved red) - L1 (switched live)
Blue - (sleeved black) - N (neutral)

Unfortunatly, there is no set standard for what coloured wire does what.

It depends on how the other end of the wire is connected to the lighting circuit.

The colours GaryMo posted are the standard convention, but it is not forced to be the colour scheme you have.

Is your wife still alive?
Better make sure she has first bath/shower just to make sure!
