EPR2 french power stations are half the size of Hinckley but still.
At 12 billion quid each much cheaper.
I read that the last coal fired power station has shut last year I think.
So that's the end of that.
Others are building coal stations

I just think we're a bit rubbish at large infrastructure projects. High speed rail for example. HS2 was costing somewhere between 100-200million quid per km, whereas European averages were 25-35million per km. Probably all down to bureaucracy.

The French stations were built for EDF the same as Hinkley Point. I worked for EDF and it was supposed to be on stream now with the lessons learnt from building those in France. It has been troubled by covid and looking after the fishes though.

France has built nuclear power stations in half this time, and they are planning to build another 6 reactors for 72billion euros and they aim to finish them by 2038.
All the EPRs have been **** and doubled their budgets, the dangers of a new design, new kinks to work out.

Also France has built one reactor this century, flamville C which is supposed to be a near clone of Hinckley, which took 17 years.

We're not ****, nuclear power is ****. You need to be cranking out reactors by the dozen to get efficiencies of scale but we don't want or need dozens of them.
