If I was ever unfortunate enough to fall ill or have an accident while abroad, I’d want to go to the nearest hospital that could treat me and not worry about the cost of anything. You just can’t do that with an EHIC. I’ve told you that before but you just won’t listen, will you?
A friend of ours was on holiday last year in Malta. One evening walking home from a restaurant, his daughter jumped over a 1ft wall....with a 12ft drop on the other side. Horrific injuries including shattered ankles and broken pelvis. Insurance paid to stabilise her and a private plane home with medical staff etc for specialist treatment in the U.K.

Is it a substitute for travel insurance?
No. While it's useful, EHIC is only about medical cover. It gives you access to state-run hospitals which, depending on where you travel to, can be few or far between, and more limited.
The EHIC gives valuable protection but it should never be seen as a substitute for travel insurance.

What the EHIC card does do is give you unlimited cover time wise...
Which many private health insurances don't...
It also gives you emergency care for the 'virus', which many private health insurances don't!

But should you find yourself in need of medical treatment in an EU/EEA country which your cherished private healthcare policy won't cover then I wouldn't shed any tears...
Because private healthcare policies don't cover 'non essential travel' to areas subject to government warnings. That means holidays to the ignorant.
Whereas the EHIC does...
I'm still waiting to hear of any benefit that leaving the EU will bring about
