How best to attach this light fitting to the ceiling?

From this I assumed you were considering either removing the fancy rose or hanging your lamp somewhere else, hence my #11
Ahh sorry for the confusion. I want to go into the ceiling rose. I'm guessing as it's a Victorian house the ceiling rose should be on a joint or noggin as it's not central to the room and surely it's designed to take heavyish light fittings?

Have you considered this arrangement

The lamp hangs from a joist that is capable of taking it's weight and the fixed wiring in the existing ceiling rose is not altered in any way.
