Leave existing ceiling rose within void of new light fitting

Im replacing old pendant light fitting with metal light fitting in a bedroom. I’ve been researching lighting circuits and various fittings. I had planned on using wago connectors and removing the plastic rose. However I’ve looked today and I can mount the new bracket alongside the existing ceiling rose. The new fitting is of a much larger diameter and the rose will fit inside the void so I can leave it in place fixed to the ceiling and just wire the new flex to the new fitting. I just wanted to check this was acceptable practice.

Yes, fine.

If the new fitting is metal it should, of course, be earthed.
It likely will be but there is a chance that the fitting is Class 2 and not meant to have connections of the rose type in side it.

I am quessing he means if its metal and Double Insulated , there is some metal fittings now that claim they do not require earthing, and reading their instructions, the Live and Neutral need to be enclosed in a plastic enclosure that they supply with the light.

Otherwise, if your light has an earthed connection then you must connect an earth to your fitting.

I’m not sure the new fitting is deep enough to accommodate this. Surely the rose is just like the connector block on the new fitting so I’m not sure why would I have to put the lid on it. Could I use wago connectors sat inside the fitting then. I’m not sure I want to go to the hassle of connecting them into a junction box in the loft space.
And yes it does have an earth and I know this must be connected. Cheers in advance.

I'm hoping someone can look at this fitting and tell me categorically if i can connect this directly to the rose. There is no space to put the cap on the rose so if I can't connect directly to it and leave it in place what are my options please? Can I use normal choc blocks or wago connectors and leave them in the fitting. Sorry to be a pain for asking.

Yes, it has to be earthed anyway - so no need for the rose cap if no room.
