Hi, I am trying to find a light+heat combined unit for out Wet Room if anyone out there can help. I did buy the model which is circular stainless steel with an element running around it and light bulb hanging from centre. They've been around for donkeys, but Builder won't fit it even though it meets all requirements and can be used in a bathroom, plus my husband thinks we could get something more modern.

Builder won't fit it
Has he said why?

even though it meets all requirements and can be used in a bathroom
But can it be used where you want it to be in a wet room, which has no Zone 2?

plus my husband thinks we could get something more modern.
You could certainly get something better at making the room warm - radiant heaters like those do not warm the air.

The Builder said because of the steam although I am inclined to disagree because steam rises from a bath too. We are finding in the winter that we are having to put the heating on just to get the bathroom radiator hot because it's like a fridge.

Will be interested to see how it works. I made a huge mistake and fitted under floor heating in the wet room. With required extractor running it simply would not heat the room enough it needed the towel rail as well to get room warm. I have considered radiant heater because of what BAS says it does not heat air it heats body so air changes would not affect the heat. Problem with wet room in mother's house is it draws replacement air from a cool hall rather than a warm room. I tried using MR16 spot lights with idea it would give radiant heat but found forever renewing bulbs so replaced with LED.

The Ceiling Mounted Heat + Light on Amazon shows as Zone 3 now there is no Zone 2 in a wet room but an increased Zone 1 and Zone 3 has not existed since 2008. For Zone 2 IPX4 is required. This site shows a range of radiant heaters some shown as IPX3 or IPX4 but the Ceiling Mounted Heat + Light does not show an IP rating.

Without knowing why the builder will not fit it then it near impossible to suggest another product. It many be the heat, IP rating or electrical load on lighting circuit until you say why then can't help.

OK now we have the answer so there are for towel rails electric heaters so rail is duel fuel either water or electric. As to if these will fit a radiator not sure? Likely they will. There has been questions about if heating is switched on and electric also on that thermo syphon can be started to electric ends up heating other radiators as well as bathroom.

I am uncertain about central heating today, may be a central boiler but tend today to have thermostatic radiator valves (TRV) so heating is individual for each room. My house is open plan so no option, however mother's house has doors so can fit timer heads for TRV so each room is separate heating levels and times.

The shower in mother's wet room does with out question produce far more steam than a bath. The quantity of water and fact it is sprayed out of shower with clearly no curtain or sub enclosure it really does need the extractor to remove the steam. So yes builder does have a point.

have you got a hot-water cylinder?

What is the ceiling height?

The unit you describe is hideous and should be ceremoniously burned. I'd rather have a downflow heater, even then, yuck!

You could replace the radiator with a towel rail, which you can turn dual fuel by fitting an electric element into it. Problem with a towel rail is though they get toasty hot, they aren't much cop at actually giving off that heat into the room. Keep an eye on the wattage of the rail to ensure it will be sufficient to heat the room.

Surely that's the whole point of having heating installed?

Yes but as there were times last year (note we only moved in 18 moths ago) that we had to put the central heating on just to get the bathroom warmed up, the rest of the bungalow was ok because we've got a wood burner stove.
