IDEAL FF240 PROBLEM

Just got back from holiday today to find our boiler not working and it feels like minus4!! Changed the fuse on the wall point which had blown then managed to re-light. Boiler fires up but dies and goes out after a couple of minutes. Tookthe cover off and have noticed a fan broken into a couple of pieces laying near the bottom of the unit. Is this what is causing my problem? Looks like it (the fan) should be mounted on a spindle at the top. How much should i EXPECT to pay for a fix if this is the problem or where can I get a replacment fan blade?

Thats not your problem i'm afraid.

Check to see if the pump is running first.

Think I need to call a plumber then as I am not sure how to check if pump is running. Whats the broken fan for then and does that not matter?

The broken bit is to keep the fan cool, It will work without it but the life of the fan may be reduced...allegedly

yes its mounted near the tank - a MYSON COMPACT CP53. How can I find out if it is not working. Many Thanks again JP

Turn off heating....put a old cloth under pump....undo the black plastic nut on the front of the pump...it will pull towards you a bit and a bit of water may come out. Turn on heating...the bit you have just undone should spin..it it doesn't spin but the boiler is firing up then its kaput...probably

looks like it is that ta! What is a fair price I should expect to pay for a new one fitted?

Sometimes changing a pump is a 30 minute job sometimes it can be 4 hrs.

That makes it hard to say a price

I would say ONE MILLION DOLLARS

Plus VAT

or a cool million for cash

We would charge a fixed price of £84 plus a fixed price of £60 to supply and fit the pump making a total of £144 to include a boiler service.

Thats in London though and Yorkshire should be cheaper however some parts seem to be more affluent than the SE now and it might be a lillt more there now.
