Settle down for a long story......

A few months ago we started getting the hot, cold, hot , cold issue with our water.
we had a bit of a nightmare trying to get a plumber to have a look which is a story for another time.

He recommended changing the Thermistor, so he got the part and did the work but it didnt change anything
He then recommended changing the heat exchanger, he got the part and did the work and this still didn't fix it. Immediately after this attempt this got worse and now the hot water doesn't work unless we crank the heating up first.

his recommendation is now a new boiler, i have a baby and my wife is still on unpaid maternity, "Winter is coming!!"

i have already chucked £500 at this to no avail and i don't have the money for a new boiler.

is there anything else that can be done ?

Ideal fixed price repair sounds like your best bet, wouldnt have been anywhere near £500

Why have you paid 500 quid to not have your boiler fixed? No fix, no fee is how most competent independents operate. Wild and speculative parts swapping at your expense are the hallmarks of someone who doesn't have a clue.
Find a local independent engineer who has recommendations from people you know.
