If a hydrogen car is 50 MPH faster to a diesel car, why are we looking at electric?

possibly all to do with the new land speed record ?

but do we need 1,600 BHP cars that can travel at 406.3 mph ? probably not that practical in todays cities - I'm sure i could get across edinburgh faster on my push bike

Because water is (basically ) free and it cannot be taxed or rationed or slapped with a faux "climate tax" like other forms of fuel.
Feel scammed yet

by that argument beer and whisky should be free but off course the raw ingredients although cheap do not make the end product ;)
hydrogen requires somthing like 40% more energy to produce the same energy output as batteries
in otherwords 100kw to charge a battery will take 140 kw input iff hydrogen to convert
now the actual amount may be different but the extra energy wasted in conversion is significant

What JCB have done is to develop hydrogen powered machines to a working standard, including the vital question of fueling them. This is a massive step and a great example of good old fashoined British engineering.

Electricity can be hard to come by on typical earthmoving sites so with the best will in the world large plant is just not going to go that way in the forseeable future. There are 20ton diggers that are battery powered: they can handle the battery weight and indeed use it to balance the machine but they are too slow to travel to a remote recharging point so their real world effectiveness is limited.

Many very large excavators have been electric for many years, but they are typically in a quarry so fairly static and fed by cable. At the other end of the scale a 1tonner that can be plugged in overnight is a real boon to householders doing a bit of diy as they don't have to worry about diesel.

Speed records are purely publicity, something JCB atre pretty good at: remember Guy Martin driving a JCB Fastrac tractor at some outrageous speed a few years ago?

I am talking bout filling your tank with water to make hydrogen not filling your tank with hydrogen.

That sort of technology is always bought/sabotaged by oil companies, with a little help from the government and any other rich body who wants to keep us down in the mud whilst they themselves become richer. I'm sounding like a socialist loon, which I'm not, but it is mostly about power and politics rather than making things better/greener/cheaper for the masses. It's been done for millenia by those in power to keep the masses struggling and paying taxes.

Why give a man a fishing rod, when you can give him the stinking remains of a fish head for which he has to pay dear
