Initial/Honywell Alarm System Help

Hi,

I not long moved into a house that has a couple of Initial boxes mounted on the front and rear of the house, with PIR sensors around the house, and what I believe to be a Honywell Galaxy keypad mounted to the wall with the main box of tricks located in the garage.

We had a power cut over the weekend which meant that one of the Initial boxes started flashing and when trying to enter either of the two codes we were given by the previous occupant it said there was an error and the siren started going off. I then opened up the main panel and found the engineer code scribbled in there and tried entering that (the lid of the panel was off while doing this) but this didn't work either. The only way I could silence the alarm was to unplug one of the plastic plug connectors within the panel. The keypad now displays a line of flashing asterisks.

I spoke to an alarm company this morning and they said I needed to go back to the original installer which is a little ingenious since it was installed years ago by previous occupants with no associated paperwork.

With that said is there anything I can do to salvage what I have or do I need to simply get a new alarm system? I have attached some pictures of the current state and would welcome any guidance.

Many thanks,

Chris

Ok - so if I replace my battery all the codes will work? Or are you saying that it got into that state in the first place because when the mains went out the battery was dead which caused the issue.

Have you ever used or tried the codes you where given ? If not they may be incorrect ! Worst case default panel reprogram and replace battery .

Yes the codes we were given did work. We were given two four-digit codes, one ending A and the other ending B. They armed/disarmed the system as expected. It's just that on this occasion there was the power cut and the codes are no longer seemingly working.

Just so I understand this properly, when the mains was lost the battery did not adequately power the system and as such my alarm system has got itself into a mess. Now mains has been restored I will need to do a default panel reprogram? Are there any noddy instructions to do this?

Thanks

basically a back up battery has a life of around 5 years, but at the annual service it should be tested.

when the mains power goes and the battery is weak it can cause issues, that is dependant on the panel and how it handles the battery.

The power cut probably finished the battery off.

You may not have to default and reprogram, swapping the battery out may be enough to get up and running

Ok so I've made a little progress. Reconnected the plug, put the lid back on and entered default code 1234 which turned the siren off but has kept the flashing light on. I managed to get into Engineer Mode 112233 too so it looks like it has already defaulted. I tried adding a Level 2 user and put in their PIN but when setting either full or part, I get an intruder alert and the siren goes off. Either way the light still flashes on the box outside. Any ideas about that?

AS per Secure I AM, your battery is OUT OF DATE by about 12years old, it needs to be replaced, until then all manner of strange things WILL OCCUR.

The memory will/should hold all the programming, REPLACE THE BATTERY.

ASAP
