Off to The Gambia in November and we have to go to the docs next week for jabs and things for Yellow Fever, Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Malaria, Polio and Tetanus!

Does anyone know much about all this lot? How much does it cost (I know Yellow Fever is £40)? Which ones are jabs? Any side effects? Do they all get done at the same time?

I thought we all had polio at school, isn't that the one on a sugar lump? Why do we need it again? Is there a doctor in the house? :?

Hi

I went to Africa a few years ago and had a similar list to contend with. I think pricing varies according to where you are, but recall yellow fever being a similar price - don't think you have to pay for all of them.

Malaria is by pills you take before, during and after trip - several varieties with varying side effects. Tetanus and YF are jabs but don't recall about others.

What about Goa, India , all you Alan Whickers what do you need there jab wise an what beer is it there ?

Don't do it! ooch! that needle is big, go to blackpool instead. and they speak proper english.

blackpool ...lol going there you NEED plenty of innoculations an medi care ,packets of Resolve, condoms extra strong , an sunglasses ...lol

why them?, well you need them in the clubs so you dont meet another males eyes by accident , who starts the old "What are you Flipping looking at ,etc ,etc routine ",where if it does the local hospital the Victoria has a strict A an E dept ,so bewarned ,anyway if youre a nutter in drink ,just stop at home ...lol

btw when there try a good 24hr drinking den the Crazy scots bar ,Rigby rd , a friendly dive that has karioke an some very nice ladies down there ..

polio is drops on the tongue, yuck but ok, typhoid is an injection, srtiff arm but ok, tetnus and hep A the same, used to have to have them reguarly when i was diving in the wonderful murky waters of the south east! I think malaria is a course of tablets that you must keep taking, but i dont know about the rest.

Whatever you do watch out for Hep C, from bodily fluids, more easy to catch than hiv and no innoculations, cure etc etc, so stay away from loose women!

Had tet, diptheria, typhoid, and hep A jabs last month all at same time in two arms, all free from local health centre. Malaria tabs required private prescription (£11) plus about another £11 for the pills, not all malaria tabs require a prescription depends where you are going. Take some immodium tablets with you in case you get the trots

As opposed to West Country english....Miaow!! JJ

The Malaria tablets I had to take to go to the Dom. Rep. were ruining the holiday (giving me belly ache and constipation) so I had to stop taking them. I believe Malaria is not very nice (if you get it), but constant belly ache is a bugger too. I'll never take them again, unless I go to somewhere like The Gambia! Oh well. Apparently you only really need to worry about Malaria if you're going inland (if you're on the coast you should be ok).
Disclaimer: If you die, it's nothing to do with me!

Good luck,
Gcol

if it's possible to put the polio drops into something that tastes nice, then why dont they? I had a sour taste in my mouth all day after i had mine
