Interview let down

M

Mickymoody

I spotted a job, in the jobcentre, white goods engineer, good wage, as an apprentice, so took it to the doleschool/workhouse that I must attend weekly, as they are offering me to work for 4 weeks for my dole money, and if I refuse, they stop my money, And as the contact number had a non-local code, rang from doleschool, was given an interview immediately. Was given an address near Preston to attend.

So, I get a lift up there, attend, and there are like 3 or 4 other people there filling an a4 form out, with basic information, name address, NI number, then on the rear, a kind of self test profile test? But the other people were a young girl, and an elderly lady, so doubt they are going for the same job, presumably an employment agency?

The receptionist, while pretty, is covered down her arms in tattoos, so I fill said form in, hand it into the receptionist, in the meantime some guy is called into an anti room, but doesn't emerge. Then I'm called, and have the most bizarre interview ever.

He says have you ever heard of 'mumbles', I say no, he says they are a vacuum cleaner repairer, that offer a £10 contract for maintainence for a year(?) and these vacs are serviced once a year, plus other white goods, says I'm well qualified, although this form that I filled out has minimal information, and they specified that they didn't need my CV, although I did state my C&G224, didn't ask me anything, and I was out of there in 5 minutes..

But there are several things that are weird...when I went in to the room, he says close the door, but it doesn't work, as the office hasn't been outfitted, basically, it looked like a Real Hustle setup, done bad.

The guy says to me, you will be sent a letter next week, we will take you on a one day trial, and if successful, we will take you on.

So the doleschool rings me today (Monday), to see how I got on, I say great, but strange, and they pester me for them to ring them, for a follow up..which she does..

The doleschool then rings me back, to say that I haven't attended, that the company would have rung me to confirm if the position is mine (they said a letter would be sent), and that I'm lying, they will stop my money immediately, I'm ripping off the system!

I explain about the bizarre form filling, so doleschool rings them back, they say yes that does happen, so doleschool rings me back, well, yes you might have attended, hmmm..you have to have an interview under caution to explain your actions.

So an interview instigated by a government quango, that I attended, at a dodgy site (a bungalow at the entrance to an industrial estate, with a receptionist covered in tattoos, empty rooms, no decor, no computers, bare rooms, only 2 people working there, and when the doleschool rings to confirm my attendance, they deny my presence! Wasn't given a business card, sounds like a scam to me. Plus I get a caution for not attending potentially? When I did!

Bit strange that.

Why don't you go to a solicitor and see about getting an affidavit sworn to.

Let the Job centre/interviewer runs its course and then hit them with it.

Its quite likely with your testimony and others, that they our committing fraud so you probably need to go higher up the chain.

It's a bit strange that the dole office keep picking on Mick Moody when there are millions of others unemployed. Why is that Mick?

I went for a job the other week working in the rail industry (temp jobs going at Bombardier but through an agency) Had to take a numeracy and literacy test. I got 74 out of 75 on that. Then got interviewed by a young (25 ish ) chap from the agency. As soon as he read my CV and saw I was a joiner by trade, the interview was almost over.
" Can you read drawings?" " Well I've been reading drawings for most of my working life. "
"Ahh yes but these are pretty technical."
" I have A level Engineering Drawing grade B."
" Hmm, but you passed that back in 1973."
And so on we went for about 5 minutes.
Waste of time. ;) ;) ;) ;)

Loads of these recruitment/training type companies, they get paid by the government for everyone they 'process' Total scam and a waste of time/money.

This ring any bells Mickeylove?

That's almost not a comedy scene, it's true. You must do this pointless training..yes but, I'm trained better than you, and my old job paid more than you get...shut up.

It's like the only jobs available are to train people how to look for jobs, 4 different agencies I've been to, but when I suggest working in that industry, am shot down, as other in this thread have also done, for their own amusement maybe?

But maybe the best people to employ, are those most experienced in looking for a job, ie the unemployed? And NOT the people leaving one job for another?

I've realised a good decent wage to support my family, so how people can be so cruel with their comments, about someone that lost their job is beyond me, and people in power can be so dismissive. People on here don't know me, so why make such cutting remarks, about something they nothing about?

Deluks / JoinerJohn, I'm in that boat..loads of experience, skills, but they prefer to employ someone going from a job, rather than someone that has a gap. There was a TV programme on tonight, regarding a rail worker, in a similar situation, you have done that job all your life, what else is available? Take minimum wage? There are all the school leavers-24 yo to do that work, retrain? There are plenty people already trained in that area, you do what you do, specialised. So no work.

I can't believe a minority of people critisise me for having an interview for work, how banal are they?

How long have you actually been out of work for?

What are you qualified/trained/ in?
