Are you worried Hate?

No, just wondered , mods said someone has several accounts from one IP address, could it be that more than 1 person in a house has an account on here, and not 1 person with more than 1 account.

Most forum / website CMSes allow admins to track IP addresses to help stop spammers, trolls etc.
Most standard broadband accounts / routers will change IP address when it is rebooted, unless you specifically ask for a static IP.

If you're with the same broadband provider as others on the fora, then there's a reasonable chance you'll pick up another members IP address occasionally.

I reckon it would be pretty improbably, although possible. UK has 121,437,491 IP addresses

I am guessing this was related to "tag team" spammers?

Not usually, but sometimes. Often it will be a location based on your ISP, I think, although sometimes might give location.

It can sometimes offer a general area of the country, where the IP is located, other times it may just track down to the owner of the IP - your ISP's registered details.

I use multiple IP addresses. As I often connect via a virtual private network. It can mask your location as well as secure your connection. When I’m sailing I usually VPN back to my home server and out from there as it allows me to connect for work. Otherwise my odd locations can trigger access management controls and I waste lots of time with 2 factor authentication problems..

It doesn’t cost much to set up a vpn.

Making a connection from your computer (A) via another computer in a different part of the world (B), will present the IP of the B computer to the server. Your mate will have some remote control software installed on both computers, to allow him to remotely control his computer at home. It is the same system used by these spammer people, who ring you up and inform you they are from Microsoft and you have a virus on your computer. They ask you to download and install the remote control software, so they can take control of your computer, then ransom you to get control back and/or it enables them to get hold of your bank details and passwords.

I am doing that now! I've been working from home since March, my work PC is still on in the office. I leave on all the time and shut down on Friday night, and a colleague turns it on on Monday morning. Very easy to set up the software (we use SplashTop but others available) - you just install it on both PCs and link them up. Then you control your other PC as normal.

This is how those telephone internet helpline scammers take control of people's computers to install phishing software to steal all their banking details and shopping accounts.
