Hi i'm wanting to install a 2 way one gang IR dimmer switch. Is it possible to have the dimmer switch on one side of the room and a normal light switch on the other side, or do you need a slave dimmer switch instead of the normal switch.

Help is sorely needed.

If it is a 2-way dimmer, then yes, you can have that and a two-way switch controlling the lighting.

Are you aware though that what will happen is that when the dimmer is "off", the switch will turn the lights on and off, and when the dimmer is on, the switch will toggle between dim and off?

Or, looked at another way, one of the positions of the switch will stop the dimmer from working, making it just another on/off switch.

If that's OK with you then go ahead and wire the dimmer in as if it were a two way switch. If it doesn't have clear instructions, make sure you work out which terminal is which - do not end up connecting the live feed to the output of the dimmer.

Are you putting the dimmer where an existing 2-way switch is?

Have you thought about using a 2-way dimming product like this
