Is it me or is it us (Me and SWMBO) or (Quite a few of us)?

anyway, the problem:-

Modern appliances have to or usually come fitted with a 13A plug (plugtop).
Why oh why are so many of them made with less of a curve/notch to readily grab hold off to pull out of the socket, more diificult for some diabled folks and less easy for "Normal" folks too?
A cunning deliberate attempt to deter folks from plugging and unplugging appliances???

You can get plugs with a better grip, and fit them yourself.

There is also a sort of strap you can get that fits round the plug.

It's not just you :-) It certainly applies to the 'disabled', but also to those of us who (like me!) are simply getting old (and 'creaky').

However, as has been said, there are plenty of plugs around made for the disabled. One of my daughters, who initially trained as an Occupational Therapist, used to be a great champion of ones with 'handles'!

Kind Regards, John

apologies,
I did not make it clear.
YesI am aware of those "Disabled Plug" things.
But why the heck are so many appliances not fitted with "Standard" plugs we were brought up on?
Not just the better makes but the far cheaper ones used to be fitted as standard to any appliance by yourself or at point of sale (might or might nt have charged extra) but now the mainstream appears to be "Let us fit an absolute Carp plug on it!".
Is it deliberate to annoy as many folk as possible and not just the disabled?
I think if someone started a firm called "Fit a Better Plug dot Com" they might be on a winner with branches in every town .
It is Diablolical , it is a con!

Good question - but I'm not a person who could answer it!

Purely speculating, it would not surprise me if someone decided that the new-fangled ones 'look better/neater'!

Kind Regards, John

Funny that.

I changed 2 plugs last week for that very reason and mentioned it to friends at a social event on Friday with a retort something about getting old (Mrs Sunray was 70 on Burns night) but both of them were almost semi ovular (sorry for the incorrect use of the word) in profile with absolutely no possibility of gripping them - I wish I'd taken pics now. The plug on the iron was the same and I changed that with one with a handle as the kitchen sockets are way up high under the wall cupboards.

That sums up the 2 recent plugs I changed.

Years ago I could get a plug from MANWEB which the line pin had the hole for the fuse so it only stuck out a very small amount from the wall, the insulators on the live pins resulted in their demise, but many of the moulded plugs also stick out less from the wall so washing machines and the like can be pushed back enough to be flush with rest of kitchen cupboards.

I would never unplug my dishwasher, it is only unplugged for maintenance. Also, I look at plugs always left plugged in, 1770132126634.png and I note they seem to work out of the socket, and it is a regular thing for me to push them home. The smaller the plug the less they seem to work out of the socket.

I think the moulded plugs are a bit rubbish.

The ones I have in the garage as a plug wiring exercise for the Scouts have a kind of lip either side that you can get your finger tips behind. But, if you have arthritis, they can be a struggle.

The best one I had I can't find.
It actually had a big tough loop built into the cover of the plug so it was really easy to plug in and pull out.

Years ago I worked for a business machines company. Their office equipment had big easy pull plugs as standard. I probably have one somewhere.
