Is this safe?

My pull down light switch cord thing in the bathroom stopped working so I unscrewed the top bit on the ceiling and got it working again.

However, on inspection, I notice the earth is not connected. Any idea why that may be?

And am I Ok to secure the earth into its correct place in the holder?

You could.
But nothing wrong with it really.

It's not right, but it's ok.

If it doesn't reach the earth terminal, you could terminate it in a piece of small terminal block.

Because it’s not needed. The earth terminal is there for convenience to join two earths together, should you have had two cables at the switch.

Might be double insulated, plus it’s on a non conductive pull cord.

When I get a chance I'l see if I can wire it back in.
