I wonder how much longer it will be before someone comes along and tells us it's caused by global warming and that we should all be ashamed of ourselves!
 
The Earth changes polarity too. It's one way of dating some rocks, and giving us information about the age of the planet.
 
I know nothing about the Earth's magnetic field, but I was under the impression that it is caused by its core being metallic and constantly moving. But the sun doesn't have a metallic core, does it?

So, the Sun is not going to 'flip upside down', then - the magnetic field will reverse.
