Hello All,

I hope that someone can shed some light on my Kitchen woes.
I have just moved to a 1970's bungalow, all the wiring is PVC, it has a new Consumer Unit fitted which has been tested by a qualified sparky, as have the sockets. My question is about what seems to be an unconventional cable run in the Kitchen.
All works well nothing trips out, I've attached a diagram of the wiring layout. The wiring is behind plaster dabbed walls and has mechanical protection.
Would it be prudent to put an inspection cover over the ring main running down the wall so others will know its there???

Thanks in advance

Ps the JB's behind the units are accesable and all connections are tight, the spur (green) socket feeds a extractor hood fitted with a 5amp fuse

Where do i start . . . . are you having major redecorating done in the kitchen? because it would also be prudent to loose the 2 junction boxes and make the spur above the wall units into part of the ring . . .

In fact, see my picture below. hope you dont mind the cheeky edits . . .

But if you just wanted to know about the access cover, then yes, you can do this, it would be a good idea. But tidying the whole lot up - even better!

Hi crafty,

Thanks for the quick response, I've had a change round and made it a little neater. I didn't like the idea of the JB's either.
I've checked and double checked the connections too

Made a mistake with the diagram, the spur socket now comes from the new double socket on the far left

Thanks for that crafty, next project is sort out the spur with the two spurs off it (in the kitchen again). Again its behind platerboard, so access shouldn't be too bad

You should have the fused spur at the double socket, but it would be very easy to extend the ring.

(Now i'm not hundred % sure that you should have the 3a fuse before the 13a fuse and the 3a fuse will protect everything after that point (?) )

Hi Dellsmp,

I was thinking of using blue butt connectors and ratchet crimps to do this

The new circuit would follow the dotted line (plenty room behind the plasterboard)
The blue butt connectors are rated at 27amps would this be okay??

Ta very much

Ps those undies have turned all my socks pink
