Is anyone else familiar with the concept of "knocking the nibs off" of roof tiles to get them to "sit flush"?

If so, how do the tiles lock onto the battens?

Eh?

A roof tile will sit (on roofing battens) no more flush, with or without the hanging nibs. We do sometimes remove the seating nibs, when installing roof lights, so they don't foul on the flashings.
Or are you talking about some other tile application?
