Strangely got it all working, returned it to my niece where it worked for a few days then although connected to router would not connect to web, brought it home again but it connected faultlessly to my system.?

Have you tried restarting the router again? It might also be worth seeing if there are any firmware updates to the router which might affect connectivity.
Set to older restore point and dumped the anti-virus recently installed , replaced with avg and so far all working, I think the AV may have been messing with the connection.
