laminate floor expansion gap

just a quick question, would you carry on with the expansion gap when you come to lay the laminate around a gas fire place ? or would you butt up or come closer than the expanison gap that is being used for the walls, in other words is the expansion gap really needed around the fire place? cheers

if you are good a woodwork have the tools and the patience leave the normal clearance [12mm] everywhere else then leave an open 3mm around the fireplace
and every time it closes up and starts to tent remove a further 3mm
eventually it can expand no more and hopefully will contract very little

well thats a good tip but what tool would you use to remove a further 3 mil once laid? something like a dremil?, ive started to lay using the standard gap now but would like to know what tool you would use cheers
