I have a downstairs loo with a leaky cistern, see picture of cistern with lid removed. The valve is clearly not seating properly so it's constantly leaking into the WC. How big a job is it to fix or replace this?
I was going to try to remove it to have a look but it all feels quite flimsy and I'm afraid I may break something.

Not big at all, that valve unclips and can be removed to either clean it or replace it. It looks like the 250 and that has 2 clips at the bottom, the lugs are pushed in at the top, releasing the clips from the cage.

See at around the 1min mark

Cheers Rab.
I did some more digging and I think it's more like a TYP240. This looks like it may be the solution. I'll have another go at it tomorrow.

I think I have now identified this as a Geberit flush valve (223.008.21.1), which is now discontinued. As you can see in the attached images, I can turn this around 45° in either direction but it will not pull out. I can't see any clips that could be used to release it either. Anyone any ideas on how to remove it?

Geberit may have discontinued items but IME they have replacements that will fit.
Also IME, not worth changing washers etc, just get new valves, but then again, I haven't the time to try it and see... Customers want it fixed ASAP and most economical way.

So, I contacted Geberit and they said it was the type 260 or equivalent Rob. I tried to remove it as, shown in the video above. The video shows it being turning 90deg anticlockwise and lifting out. Mine won't turn beyond about 60deg, and no matter how hard I pull at it, it just will not budge. I think I'm going to have get a plumber to look at it.

There's more to being a plumber than just charging, for what some DIYers believe they can do themselves.

It all seems easy in theory!

Even I (a seasoned plumber) sometimes wish I had 2 extra, double jointed, wrists and elbows!

It should twist round and pull up. I think what's happening is you are getting it the the point where the clips get need to click that extra bit past the lock tabs, then it would lift out but if you're not sure then don't chance it.

Thanks again Rob. I won't take the chance because it seems to be hitting a hard stop when I turn it.
