I have a ceiling light fitting which takes 2 60watt max candles bulbs. This fitting is actually intended for a bathroom so is IP44 certified, but I'll be using it in my office. However, it is pretty well tightly sealing and I was wondering if I could swap out the incandescent bulbs for LED bulbs?

My thinking being that I was told LED bulbs get very hot, so I don't know if it would be suitable. I found the unit on an internet site: http://www.lights4living.com/modern-chrome-ip44-bathroom-flush-ceiling-light-with-opal-glass/p13313

LED bulbs/lamps do get hotter than some people expect, but since you'd presumably looking at two 9W-12w LEDs, rather than two 60W incandescent bulbs/lamps, I very much doubt that the LEDs would get hotter. However, others may have a more definitive answer for you.

Kind Regards, John

I dont think the heat damaging the light is anything to worry about, I would be concerned about the heat damaging the led lamp.
If there anything like the Electronics in the CFL lamps, they didnt like being in enclosed fittings.
Its possible the Led lamp packaging may state Do not use in an enclosed fitting, it was quite common on CFL lamp packaging.

Saying that we have been using screwfix Bc led lamps in cooker hood bulkheads and so far have been ok

Thanks guys, I'll give them a go - see what happens. I guess the worse that can happen is that they may have a shorter life span

That's what I would expect. Good luck. It's all-but-impossible that the fitting would get hotter than with incandescents.

Kind Regards, John

give it a few weeks then check them, as there plastic they tend to discolour if there getting hot.
