hi guys, okay started to install tall kitchen units had no problem in levelling on base of unit, back to front and side to side however....when placing the level on the sides of the unit it is not level, out by approx. 10mm from bottom to top? one of the units is for an intergrated 50/50 f/f the other is a cage larder unit, having never installed a kitchen before my question is do i level the unit sides and throw out the level on bottom?

If the units are level back to front and side to side, and are not upright on the sides, then the unit is not square. What sort of backs do the units have? Check, that you've assembled them according to the MI's

You can overcome this when you come to fix them back to the wall though. Put them back to the wall and gently push one side until it is vertical and mark a line. When you fix them back, make sure the units line up with the marked line.

Level the base in both directions via the legs. Then plumb one of the sides and then the unit should be OK or near enough

Don't worry too much about the integrated unit, as once the base is level then fridge will sort out the sides

Are the units flat pack or ready made? The unit can parallelogram if not assembled correctly, when measuring using a level from front to back and side to side will only give you horizontal readings, you also have to level vertically to ensure the unit is square, by not doing this will cause problems later on when fitting doors and especially drawers.

You can usually ease the unit back to square with a bit of gental persuassion.

Get all sides as level as possible and check every unit as you go or otherwise you will end up exaggerating the errors.

Check the floor level in both directions and find a mid point to work from to set the height of the units, at this point check the kick board height so that if you go each way from this point you will not exceed the width of the kick board when coming to fit them. When you are happy with the height to be set draw a level line around the room where the units are to be placed then you can level the height of each unit to this line.

If you are going round corners with the units, check how square the corners of the room are.

If the corner is closed then work from the corner cutting in the back of the units to suit the deviation halving the differance in each direction.

If the corner is open then work towards the corner, again cutting in the back of the units as above.

This will ensure the front faces are square to each other on the return of the corners.

When fitting the wall units you cannot cut in the backs as you can with the floor units so you may have to pack the units from the wall to overcome squareness issues with the corners.
