I have a bungalow with recessed down lighters in the ceilings of 4 rooms. How can I effectivly insulate around these lights as I understand that both the lamps and the transformers must not be covered.
this is true, also by covering the cables feeding the lights with insulation you are downrating their capability to handle the current they were designed to so if you can, avoid any covering of them.
Thank you for your replys, I will get in touch with the makers and see what they say. Very good point regarding the wiring I had not even considered that.
Makers charge a fortune for a tube to go over the light in the loft...So
Cut the ends off a ali beer can put the tube over the light leave top open insulation around tube ..beer can not big enough..baked bean can.. not big enough One foot plastic down pipe.. not big enough 4" plastic soil pipe.... not big enough , off cut stainless /s flue liner and so on and so on
1) Did you confirm with the manufacturers that those bodges would give you enough clearance? If not, you may have created a fire hazard.
2) How did you resolve the problem of safely routing the wires through or over metal objects like those?
3) If the lights were mains voltage, how did you earth the metal?
