Putting up a ceiling fan & I obviously have live earth & neutral to put my wires into which I know the black wire goes into the neutral which has a blue coming out the other side the earth obviously into the earth but the live which is my red wire the other side has a brown & red wire coming out the other side just wondering why this is as my previous fan just had a single brown coming out the other side? The previous fan had a remote & this one is the chain cord if that has any relevance?

Sounds like a switch live, possibly for the chain. Any photo of wiring, or a make/model of fan?

As I understand the OP ,the query was why does the internal wiring have a red and a brown connected to the Live terminal block. That would be one goes to the lamp / bulbs and the other goes to the fans internal switch ( operated by the pull chains).
The fittings instructions regarding supply wiring are straightforward , L/N/E.

Yes, it makes sense. So, would that be already pre-wired, or something the OP has to do?

I would expect the fittings internal wiring to be pre connected in a terminal block ,leaving the supply L/N/E to just be connected in.

My fairly limited experience is they have 4 single wires, in fact some are supplied partially assembled and are designed to be assembled 'on the ceiling', first the motor then the blades followed by the light with its wiring having to be passed through the hollow motor shaft.
The convenient thing is for a loop in at rose the fan can be conveniently wired to the loop-in and the light can be connected to the switched live in order to retain the switch at the door function for the light but fan can be run without the light.
Thinking back to the last I believe there was only one switch on the unit and that was only for the fan, 4 pulls for the 3 speeds and off.
