That's often down to poor management and lack of investment. Likely to get worse before it gets better if energy prices are the big issue rather than investment in any business.

But it's easy to blame a poorly paid and motivated worker

I think you are right.

Some of them brag that they spend their time walking the dog and pottering on the allotment. Very few Brexers took on work picking fruit and veg, or collecting cockles, when the migrant workers left.

As the Barristers and Rail strikes are ongoing she'll have to sort that out first, then the NI Protocol is near the top of her list, Ukraine...etc...so it'll be next year before the new cabinet can begin to 'Unchain Britannia' in their vision of Brexit. As Kwarteng is her Chancellor i'm sure they'll get round to it eventually.

Productivity is more to do with the type of job, not how hard people work. Some jobs are low margin (food, beverages, factory workers, farming) some are high margin IT, Legal services, design, finance. The more of these jobs that can be done overseas, the more we have a margin squeeze on UK jobs. That impacts productivity.

There is also the fact that many people (like me) choose to work on/off in semi retirement. Some have even chosen not to go back to work post-covid.

She also said that British workers (workers note, not the feckless lazy or unemployed) were amongst the worst idlers in the world, no wonder she was a remainer, doubtless seeing the benefits of a hard working immigrant workforce. Her track record shows she will change her views, and indeed her party, to further her own self interest, most recently her position on handouts for those affected by the energy crisis. She has achieved her dream but her approach and style make BJ look like a diplomat by comparison.

Truss won't turn off the money hose, no politician will. Inflation is here to stay.
