Two threads have recently been locked - one on the subject of Ikea transformers, the other on towel rails.

Other than one being 5 years old, I can't see a good reason for locking them.

You’ll probably find ellal put in a complaint as someone may have used the wrong terminology to explain something.

Oh no.

MOD: one was locked due to bickering, the other because it was 7 years old.

To give credit to the people who "drag up" old threads...

On many forums it's considered bad form to simply join up and ask a question that's been asked before - to avoid it, the user is encouraged to first use the search function to cover at least the obvious search terms. It therefore follows on that if a new user has done a search and then found a thread which has themes similar to their own query, that they would then add to it. It's perfectly reasonable when looked at like this.

I'm inclined to agree, and that approach certainly has the potential to avoid duplication/repetition of efforts and messages.

One thread in this forum which has always intrigued me is this one , relating to Dimplex Opti-Myst Fires. Having started back in 2010, it has been resurrected and added to countless times by people with new (but similar) questions over the years. This has not, to my knowledge, happened with any other thread in this forum and, perhaps even more surprising, never seems to precipitate any complaints about the resurrection of an ancient thread. However, in the spirit of what you say above, it's probably not unreasonable!

Kind Regards, John
