i have read about this filter and would like to ask a few questions.

is it worth fitting at the same time as flushing out my system and fitting a new boiler.

am i right in thinking it allows you an easy place to an inhibitor into the system?

There are all manner of things you could do with your money.

A Magnaclean is around £100. If you were considering a budget boiler the difference would be better invested in a better unit, in my opinion.

If you want a belt and braces approach and think your system has a significant amount of crud in it, and money is not an issue, no one could argue against the extra cleansing the Magnaflow gives to ferrous items in suspension.[/i]

i have a vaillant 387 ready to go in so will be happier to fit the magC if it will help reduce longer term probs. we plan on staying in our house for at least 1o yrs. ta for replies

Magnaclean is a great product and you wont believe how much rubbish it catches.

It can only be of benefit to you.

Fit on the return to catch stuff before going back to the boiler.

Most of the carp in a system stays within the rads with only a little coming out and traveling around the system. And makes magna clean look impressive but in reality it catches vey little You would be far better taking all the rads off and hosing them out properly outside this will give you better heat out put and get the carp out of where it should not be.
Then treat it with fernox or sentinel

Is this after powerflushing?

regarding the Magnaclean, I have been fitting them to all Boiler replacement jobs since last November.

I don't have a powerflush machine but am considering making one from the bits I have acumalated in the workshop.

I try and get the old appliance to run so using it as a heater for improved chemical reaction on the magnatite, add a powerflushing chemical from a proprioty manufacturer and run it for three hours with a Magnaclean on the return. This procedure has produced good results so far.

The Magnaclean then remains, so preventing the plate heat exchanger to remain protected from any fine ferrous particles that would adversly affect the Domestic Hot Water out put, and, the warentee.

Some old systems are suprisingly clean.

If you are not in a mad rush your could do a Magnaclean on the return and put x400 in and run it for a four week period, with all rad valves fuuly open and run the existing appliance at its lowest setting when you are out to keep the chemical circulating 24/7 or at least 16/7.

Its very important that you thoroughly flush out the chemicles after the cleaning period.

One way to achive this if there is not a full bore drain point is to "drain, fill, run for 15 mins, drain, run refill, about four or five times.

That way you will have diluted any chemical that remains.

Tim
PS I use X800 for the three hour trip.

I fitted a magnaclean on a system last week. Before I had even run through any cleaning chemicals it had captured about a 1 cm thickness of ferrous flakes. I hate to think what state the old plate HE was like.

I would say its an important investment on a multi-thousand pound system and wish I could have bought shares in adey when they first started selling these:lol: I have yet to see a customer who isn't impressed with a Magnaclean.
