this is almost certainly not true.

What loads are there on the circuit?

What damage is there to the cable and accessories (including rodents and nails)?

it is all the down stairs sockets and some garden lights but we have tried unplugging them but it still keeps blowing. its alright for days sometimes but today its blown about three times and just blows again without touching anything

has it been raining today?

If you are SURE that there was nothing plugged into the circuit when it tripped (no cooker, no immersion heater, no fridge or freezer, no kettle) and you are SURE there are no damaged sockets or switches, and you are SURE there is no water in contact with an electrical part, and you are SURE there are no loose connections in any of the accesssories or spurs, then you probably have damaged cables.

Common causes are a nail through a wall or floor, or mice gnawing cables under the floor. a competent electrician should be able to trace the damaged section and replace with new cable.

Type A MCBs only exist for VERY specialised applications, if at all. ;)
