Miele washing machine draining while filling

My mum has a Miele Novotronic Premiere Plus, purchased around 1997. Recently, it started to leak during cycles, but was still able to wash clothes. We pulled it out to have a look at the pump (where problems have arisen previously) and now it is leaking far worse.

Currently, as soon as we switch the machine on, water comes in the back, through the detergent drawer, through the drum inflow, drum outflow, and out through the pump filter flap (front bottom of machine). It is not flowing out through the main drainage pipe. It is not spending any time in the drum.

Here are our observations:
- the pump rotates when the spin cycle is on
- the pump does not rotate when the machine is filling
- the drain pipe at the back is clear, and positioned higher than the pump
- the main drain pipe from the back of the machine looks intact
- the outflow pipe from the detergent drawer to the drum inflow pipe is not blocked

It seems like maybe we dislodged something as the problem got a lot worse after we moved it around and took the pump and pump filter out to have a look at them.

We wondered if maybe we have done something to a pressure sensor?

Any advice on what we can do to diagnose/fix this greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Katie

On the inside of the door, is there a sticker which has the model number? Either on the door or on the other enamel side.

Just to clarify the issue, the machine lets water in continuously and pumps continuously in tandem?

The model number is W806.

When switched on, the machine lets water in (not sure whether by gravity or pump) which then promptly flows out the pump filter flap overflow. The drain pump doesn't operate during this filling phase.

We are starting to wonder if it is the filter cap. It seems quite a simple piece of equipment to go wrong, but it is something that we took out, put back in, and then the problem began...

So it is leaking out of the drain pump filter and it leaks whenever water is in the machine?

It does sound like the filter cap. Just check that the rubbery seal surfaces (on the cap) are clean and not chipped.

We replaced the filter cap...the machine still drains straight out through the drain pump filter as soon as we switch it on.

Reluctantly we have booked a Miele service visit...
