Migrant channel crossing deal.

Let's just look at France, because that is closest. It is has been very frustrating trying to find detailed information about what support they receive. But this is what Google AI says:

That doesn't sound much different to here.
So why would they be so desperate to risk their lives to get here, that's what I don't get.

Obviously not. That's dreadful. I was separating out the issues. Sometimes there's just so much going on that it makes sense to break it down and see which bits can be fixed. Unless we can find a way of stopping them coming. But if we are stuck with the problem, then I want to think of all possible ways to make the best of a bad situation.
We can stop them coming here, but first we must repeal all ties to the ECHR.
It is very simple.
The hard part is finding someone with the bottle, and backing to do it.

First of all, I want to stress that is just information from Google AI. Getting clear info is difficult because often a story is written by someone with an agenda on either side of the argument.

I don't know why they come. Several factors get mentioned:

The chances of having a successful asylum claim are higher here than in France; but are we comparing like for like. Also, I think at the moment boat people can't claim asylum. Hopefully someone will clarify that.

A perception that it is easier to work illegally.

Many already speak English and many experts say that is a big factor.

Family and community ties already here.

People smugglers exaggerating the benefits of what they will receive in the UK.

yes so basically they are coming for the benefits and to work ilegaly.

Several hours after getting off of the boat, these illegal migrants are ready to do their bit for society:

So why do you think they pay thousands to a people smuggler to get here when they are already in a safe country?
I find it rather strange that we only hear about the odd one or two of these smugglers who are prosecuted.
I also find it very hard to believe that the authorities don't know exactly who these people are.
Well, that's assuming that they even exist at all.

That is one of the great unknowns. I have been reading up as best I can. There is limited research, but it shows that benefits are not a driver of illegal migration. That makes sense to me. People don't travel thousands of miles in terrible conditions, risking their lives, in order to claim benefits. These will mostly be people with drive and grit who want to better themselves through hard work. Like most immigrants have for hundreds of years.
I don’t agree at all

They come over and work cash in hand.

Well, someone must be putting the trips together, organising the boats.

What really puzzles me, is when the boats near the coast, they all seem to just pile on. How do they know which of those who get on, have paid, they don't appear to show tickets, or anything, it's just a scrum? Do they pay once on, and if they fail to pay, are they chucked off mid-channel?

I think he's hinting that it's all arranged by the government. But I am never sure with LF.
