Some mk accessories have red switches. E.g sockets, 20A switches.

Is there a specific use for these ?

And what about green switches.

I'm only talking about the switch not the whole face plate.

There is no standard for them. Generally they tend to be supplied by UPS and are for crucial equipment such as in hospitals or IT server rooms etc, but you can use them where ever you want.

They do a green one too :)

Not MK, but I've seen completely green socket fronts used in science labs when run through a blakely unit (double wound transformer to give 230v but centre tapped to earth through an impedance of 12K, with an earth leakage shunt trip unit set to 2.5mA - effectively a localised IT sytsem)

The reason for coloured switches on outlets such as socket, switch plates and isolators are simply to improve visibility of them.
If we want to looking for a standard I understand that part m touches on contrasting colours of plates and switches for enhanced visibility and operational advantages. But I do not believe there are standards for ones that are colour specific for the operation or location they serve.

Humm.... Yes you can locate them easier, but with the red mk ones its not so easy to tell whether they are on or off as the usual red marker is still red!

I guess red switches are used on cooker switches for emergency off. I guess there could be a parallel there for the 20A switches.

regarding the cooker and 20 amp ones, i thought it was in the regs that isolation switches had to be coloured red

Firefighters switches must be red.

Cooker switches do not have to be, and although plenty are red other colours are available.
