According to a leading brexiteer!

Linky Linky

"A leading Tory Brexiter on Sunday calls on ministers to reopen the UK’s borders to tens of thousands of young workers from EU nations in order to tackle acute post-Brexit labour shortages that he says are driving up inflation.

In an extraordinary admission of the failures of immigration policy since the UK left the EU, former Tory environment secretary George Eustice said Rishi Sunak’s government should begin bilateral negotiations with EU nations immediately, with a view to offering young Europeans under 35 the right to two- year visas to work in this country"

So what happened to all those brexiteers taking up the jobs that were apparently being stolen from them?

Of course the sensible thing would be to rejoin the EU...

And voter renewal will enable that ! (y)

Couldn't make it up.

This, he said, would be part of a much-needed “post-Brexit reconciliation” with our European neighbours.

Why is reconciliation needed. Didn't they need us more than we needed them?

The question that needs to be asked, is why would any right-thinking EE citizen with anything to offer want to jump through hoops to come to Plague Island for a short time to do the jobs we don't want to do?

They indeed can't be bothered...

Because of the bureaucracy and costs...

Which is also why EU students are now choosing to go to Ireland and Malta to learn English!

The sad thing is that brexiteers have cut off the reciprocal opportunities that their children and grandchildren could have enjoyed...

Apparently brexiteers have now got the jobs back that they believed had been 'stolen'...

Why aren't they now doing those jobs?

One problem with generous benefits is it allows some to adopt alternative lifestyles and attitudes that makes them unemployable.
Is it generous benefits (examples please) or wages too low. When people need universal credits on top of wages to exist, the issue looks clear.

Working should pay better

Those of you thinking about rejoining the Eu are living in cloud cuckoo land. Assuming the EU still exists we wouldn't be allowed back in anyway but in my opinion the EU will cease to exist soon. The problem with this country and jobs being taken up is that our benefits system are way too "good." That's why we get all those, very unwelcome, "immigrants" coming here. Instead of worrying about more EU citizens coming here to do our cheap dirty jobs lets get the "immigrants" working. If they don't like it then give them the boot. Youngsters in this country, who have absolutely no clue what is going on the real world anyway because they all live in little plastic worlds inside their phones, are quite happy to sponge off the state so that they can maintain their fantasy lives inside those little plastic boxes. Oh and whilst we are on the subject of fantasy worlds in little plastic boxes, do you lot not realise that those fantasy worlds are one of the ways governments in this country are keeping the population subdued.

Just a misguided rant imo

Because it’s a f'cking sight better than where some of 'em come from? If the EU is supposed to be so good, why did they ever come here in the first place - for the weather?

If you don't have a welfare net to support working class people, then there is no such thing as low wages.
After all, something is always better than nothing.
Ask people in third world countries.

Low wages (standard of living, not £x per hour) are the real issue though

It could be because Brexit has been a bigger success than the Remain faction predicted.
That is why the UK is now short of Labour.
