Of anything!

The Ubuntu I've ordered is FOC.

Just out of interest, if you had to obtain an OS for a second hand PC, what would you use?

Shelling out nearly a ton for Win 7 seems a bit excessive to me.

As I said in an earlier post, if I were going to do that, I'd get a ready-built one cheap from ebuyer with Win 7 already installed.

I don't buy OSes. Windows isn't worth the money considering the hassle they put you through.

And that is why helpdesks read from a script...

Others should just read the manual, and seek professional advice.

Thanks monkeh.

So you don't buy OS's.

But which would you choose to use on a second-hand PC?

Well, it will be used exclusively by my eldest for school work & leisure, internet & e-mail.

I'm thinking Ubuntu 10.10 will suffice.

So. I've got a copy of Ubuntu 10.10.

I've also got hold of the following:

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/227663

as this is listed as an AGP graphics card.

Before I plug and boom, can I just double check that this card is compatible with the MB?

Thanks guys.

Cheers Monkeh.

As long as it works, I'm OK with that.

So, wish me luck....

I obviously need to install the graph card first, then I can see what I'm doing when I install the Ubuntu.

Any I've-never-done this-before-and-I'm-nervous tips?

OK. Failed at the first hurdle...

I've got the graphics card previously mentioned. I'm trying (gently) to stuff it into a slot, but it is resisting with all it's might.

I take it the right slot to stuff it into is one of the white ones? The keys on the card do not align with the purple slot.

(So technical, says my 11 yo son)

Son is desperate to get his PC up & running ASAP, so is pleading for assistance!
