I was 'raised' to believe isolators above the worktop was a far more superior way of isolating appliances, and always did this until somewhere in the 2000s where the minimal look was required by designers and customers.

I like them - I have them - it makes me feel happier.
They are certainly much nicer than having a hole drilled in your work top, running to a socket/plug above the counter.
And having to unwire a plug when removing the applicance
