Hello All,
I use my loppers hard. I've found over the last few years that the compound lever and ratchet models don't last well. The lever bearings wear out, as other people on the internet have also found.
So I've gone back to the single central pivot but was reluctant to lose all cutting leverage advantage. So I've now gone for an extending handle model but not the sort where the handles are turned to fix them in position. These, apparently, give problems after a while, too.
So I've gone for a model with sprung locators and drilled positioning holes. You just depress a button, slide the moveable arm down, and release. Couldn't be easier. The lopper arms are oval so the locating button and holes aren't under pressure when you're using it.
It works brilliantly, cuts beautifully, and comes with a 25 year guarantee. It is made in Germany and is, if I'm allowed to say it, a Gardena.
Hope this helps someone.
