narrowest dual rcd board?

Sideways CU, bit of a no-no as the main switch would be side-side operation not up and down, thats why large commercial distribution boards have a seperate space at the bottom for the main switch, preserving the uppy-downy requirement

Now, I never knew this was a requirement. Is this the only things that stops us mounting CU's sideways (since all the MCBs and RCBOs etc are tested sideways for DBs)?

Would it overcome the issue if a seperate mainswitch was fitted below or above, then omit this device in the CU?

Yes, I'm sure it would Steve, however, I've not seen a 'Direct Connect' kit like you get for DB's for domestic CU's.
