Hi.... My current combi boiler has developed a problem so had heating engineer out to look at it today and he has given me a quote for repair (£600) which is about the price I expected, and also given me a quote for some replacement options as follows...
Current boiler: Worcester Bosch Greenstar 28i Junior. At least 11 years old, so replacement would make sense vs repairing (heat exchanger + pump).
Replacement options:-
1. Worcester Bosch 4000 30 KW: £3500+vat
2. Ideal Vogue MAX C32: £3550+vat
3. Ideal Logic MAX C30: £3250+vat
4. Ideal Instinct C30: £2850+vat
Having looked online it seems for example that I can buy as follows:-
1. Worcester Bosch 4000 30 KW: £1100+vat
2. Ideal Vogue MAX C32: £1225+vat
3. Ideal Logic MAX C30: £1000+vat
The quote provided does include some other items but based on £3500-£1100=£2400 and I assume the other bits and bobs equate to let's say £400, it sounds as if engineer is charging approx. £2000 for 2 days work. Is this about the going rate ?
Supplementary info: 2 bed mid-terrace house, 1 bathroom, 6 rads.
I have used the engineer once before and was happy with his work and charges etc. but I was knocked a bit sideways when I got the prices for replacement.
I'm not trying to belittle a gas engineer's skills etc, just making sure I'm not having the price bumped up just because he's too busy etc.
Thanks
