No heating or hot water

Everything was working fine this morning. Now the heating and hot water arent working at all. The 3 way valve seems to be working ok but the boiler doesnt kick in and the pump is red hot but doesnt seem to be pumping.

Any help appreciated.

Sorry. The boiler is a Thorn Olympic and the pump is a Grundfos 15/50.

Can you see the boiler pilot light? If not, try going through the relight procedure. The wind might have blown it out. (See my post below!)

Pilot light is lit. What would the symptoms be if the pump isnt working?

Ive just took the cover off the electrics and there is a cylindrical capacitor?? with 2 wires coming off. It smells like this may be burnt out.

The pump turns easily by hand but makes no effort to turn when swithed on.

Nip to Sod-It-All or B&Q for a new pump? I don't know if you can replace the part that had burnt out. Maybe just replace the pump then investigate getting the old one repaired and keep it for spare? It's going to get cold tomorrow.
