The gun was never pointed at anyone. Unarmed men were shot in the back whilst running way or lying injured on the floor. The findings are clear and logical.

The SAS fired 500 rounds during the incident, so getting shot in the back doesn't prove anything.
With bullets flying everywhere,it could been a ricochet or anything.

There was an incident in Belfast years ago, an SAS officer gave an IRA gang the chance to surrender and they shot him dead.
You don't take chances with the IRA.

When you read the findings, it does sound like Humphreys hasn't given the SAS team the benefit of making decisions in the heat of the moment. It's all very good to say they should have done this or that, but he has the benefit of hindsight.

I vaguely recall reading about an incident, early 70's I think where about 6 IRA men ambushed a squaddie on his way back to the baracks, turned out he was SAS and he took the lot out with just a browning pistol.

I remember reading about that too in the early 80s, but I don't know if it was contemporaneous.
