Looking at the state of that one, it could well be worth checking out any other filters in the line.....often near the fire valve, and the burner will definitely have one.
Once things have calmed down, of course!

Water ingress is more often through the sight tube as the cap is loose to stop a vacuum forming . Water settles in the bottom and when you pull the read knob it finds its way into the filter.
