OLD wiring - connections for a pull cord bathroom switch

Hi all. I am changing a pull cord style light switch in my bathroom. The wiring is old and consists of 2 red wires (wound together) and a White wire.

It was wired as follows in the switch I am removing; 2 red wires into COM and White wire to L2.

My new switch has the following connections; Common, earth, 2 way and 1 way.

How should I connect the wires to the new connections?

Does your lighting circuit not have an earth?

Are these single cables, or cores in a multi-core one?

Two red wires into common, white wire in either 1 way or 2 way.
Earth (if present) to earth connector.

Are there no earth wires in any part of your lighting circuit?

Red and white wires suggest conduit to me.

Are the wires in a circular tube, and if so is it metal or plastic? Metal conduit is normally earthed and used to provide the earth for metal accessories.

Older lighting 3-core cabling I have seen (1950s) was pvc sheathed red white and blue with no cpc.

This may be one of those left over bits from way back when.
