The forecast result does not show that; it shows about the same number for each with another party getting more.
Sinn Fein didn't put up enough candidates to win an overall majority, such were their low expectations. Had they put up more, they may have achieved that such was the massive swing toward them in the elections.
Exit polls are showing the three major parties neck and neck, two of those parties have vowed never to form a coalition with Sinn Fein (IRA), and Fine Gael and Fianna Gael aren't keen on each other but could possibly form a grand coalition to keep the terrorists out, or the terrorists could form a coalition with either.
It will be a few days before the full results are out but it's looking likely SF will have most votes, it's down to who forms a coalition with whom. Either way, Leo's toast.
So, in short, voters have deserted the ruling party and the second party, in their droves, to support the IRA.
