Hi just signed up so i'll try not to ask too many stupid questions.

At the moment i have a single outside socket wired as a spur from the rcd protected ring main. Problem is it that it is unswitched therefore a pain to use for outside lights. As it if fairly new and expensive has anyone thoughts on how to switch it. I'd thought possibly a fcu, i have short term access to the wiring before the plaster arrives.

Many thanks.

Yeah, i'd like to be able to switch the socket off from inside the house otherwise the only way is to pull the plug out and leave it outside.

Is it possible to install a fcu at the position on the ring where the supply to outside comes from?

Hi, the supply runs horizontally from a double socket on the ring for about 60cm before going out through the wall to outside. I hoped i could break this run with a switched fcu and use this to control the socket outside.

Don't see why not.

You could maybe pull the wire back through the wall from the socket to supply the FCU, and then put in a new link from the FCU to the socket.

RF's suggestion sounds better as there will not be enough slack in the cable to insert a FCU in the line.

Thanks for your help, did as RF suggested and it all works a treat. Again thanks.
