Overflow - Condensation

Doing it that way can lead to sucking air, (and the f/e would get hot).

If yours is like that and water is pumping up the open vent, your pump's in backwards!

is that supposed to be an example of how to do it or how not to?....that would kill your system in no time.

Is the cylinder return tee'd in to the cold feed???
Certainly a "novel" set up.

Who the fek drew those diagrams, how to rot your system in 2 to 5 years if it lasted that long.

Thanks for your comments, that is a diagram of how it is, good or bad ;) We moved in 5 years ago and the system is now about 25 years old.

Yes it would appear that the return from the cylinder has the cold feed tee'd into it.

It would have been installed by the council or council contractors as the house was ex-council when we bought it.

Should the cold feed be connected nearer the boiler, and so nearer the exit point of the boiler overheat pipe?

Is this more like it, with the cold feed connecting 'behind the pump'?

yes that drawing is right:

------>vent pipe<-----150mm------>feed pipe------>pump------bypass(if req.)------valve all feeding into the flow pipe.

As chris has said, your setup is bad like that, but dont explain the problem you have....check pump orientation and then look at the possibility of combining you feed and vent. If the system has been running like this for years though I would be amazed if it isn't blocked all over the place.

Thanks guys, looks like it is time to call in somebody local to take a closer look at this.

Thanks
Andrew :)
